Founded in 2009, Fidor Bank is part of a new wave in disruptive challenger retail banks. Its banking model is based around its online community, enabling customers to actively participate in the bank’s product developments. The digital bank has over 350,000 online community members in Germany and the UK, with a customer base of over 120,000.

The Challenge

In 2015 Clarity was briefed to launch Fidor in the UK market, highlighting its unique online community and disruptive banking model. Since September 2015, Clarity has worked to raise awareness of Fidor Bank, its products and spokespeople on a range of topics, from consumer banking, fintech, banking regulation and customer service. Our ongoing PR objectives are to continue to raise awareness amongst consumers in the UK and to push traffic to the Fidor’s website and drive engagement on its social media channels.

The Strategy

Having identified Fidor’s key differentiators – and benchmarking these against other UK fintech players – we created a campaign platform designed to position Fidor as the only digital bank that’s created for consumers by consumers. As Fidor’s community is part of its proposition, Clarity recommended ongoing community engagement, media relations, thought leadership and participation at major events to raise the profiles of their management team.

The Results

During the launch Clarity secured over 50 pieces of coverage in national and broadcast press, including: BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, Radio 4 Moneybox, Bloomberg TV, Sky News, BBC Business, The Times, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, City AM and The Independent. Within one week of the launch, website traffic increased by 440%. Its Facebook page received a 430% increase in traffic and interaction, with its online community getting a 200% boost in sign-ups.


During the past year Clarity has generated over 150 pieces of media coverage, Fidor’s spokespeople have been invited to speak at key industry events including The Economist’s Future of Banking Summit, Wired Money, and the Retail Banking Innovation Conference, and Fidor has bagged four industry awards. Fidor’s management team were also honoured with an award for being the ‘Most influential people in European Fintech’ by the Digital Banking Club.
